Junior Activity Week

Kia Ora!
Welcome to Horowhenua College Art Dept. Over the next 13 weeks students will be able to experience many new ideas, media and techniques in Art, that will improve and enrich their Art experience. Students will learn drawing and shading techniques, paint mixing and colour theory.

Students will produce a painting using Jude Rae as an artist model. Students will then produce a body of work in mixed media and printmaking, using Terry Winters and Fatu Feu’u as artist models. We cover the four strands of the arts curriculum: developing practical knowledge, developing ideas, communicating and interpreting and understanding the arts in context.  This will teach the basic art skills you need for Year 10 art. Students must pass this course to be considered next year.

To do this course we recommend students have an Art Kit. An Art Kit should be purchased within the first two weeks of school starting and can be purchased from the Cashiers Office at the cost of approx $25. This Art Kit will last for the following 2 years (Y9 & Y10) if used with care. You will be expected to bring this Kit with you to Art and take this home to complete homeworkYou may send a cheque or set up an Automatic Payment for the above amount or pay at the Cashiers Office as soon as possible. If however, you would rather purchase these items yourself, please do so from any local bookshop. It contains: A3 plastic bag, cartridge paper pad, 2B & 4B pencil, rubber and pencil sharpener, 1 set of acrylic paints (red, blue, yellow, black & white), paintbrushes, black pen, coloured pencils. An invoice will be sent to you later in the term for a fee which will cover other items provided by the Art Department such as printing costs, printing rollers and inks, carbon paper, wood and carving tools.

We also recommend that you bring along an old shirt or apron to keep your uniform clean during Art lessons (Optional), but we do have some old ones here.

Remember to keep all your art work, as our students parents/caregivers would love to see the gorgeous work that you will create this year.

Thank you.
