Course outline

The primary aim of the course is to consolidate knowledge gained in year 12 and provide Year 13 students with further skills and knowledge, which enable them to continue into tertiary study with confidence and a clear understanding of the principles of design and how these are applied to actual design situations.
During the year, students will be provided with specific design tasks that build on each other in a logical, sequential manner. These will begin with drawing tasks and progress on to computing in design and then continue on to more complex problems that require greater computing skill and understanding of design.

Achievement Standards

During terms one and part of term two we offer 3.2 and 3.3 as a combined internal standard worth in total eight credits.  These inform 3.4 (also known as 'folio boards') which is worth fourteen credits and begins partway through term two. 3.4 is externally assessed and is due before exam leave halfway through term four. Design as a subject finishes before exam study leave begins.
These three compulsory standards form the structure of the course. Students will receive copies of the standards and assessment resources at the beginning of each standard.
This year 3.5 may be offered (students can only receive these credits once, so they cannot sit for it in another art subject). We are working representatives from the local council to finalise details at this point in time. More information will be provided once it is all confirmed. This may mean internal dates change.

3.2 Use drawing to demonstrate understanding of conventions appropriate to design.
Internal. 4 Credits

3.3 Systematically clarify ideas using drawing informed by established design practice.
Internal. 4 Credits

3.4 Produce a systematic body of work that integrates conventions and regenerates ideas within design practice.
External. 14 Credits

3.5 Produce a resolved work that demonstrates purposeful control of skills appropriate to a visual arts cultural conventions.
Internal, 4 Credits   (Credits may only be attained in ONE art discipline)
