Using the library
The classroom area is on the LHS of the library.
The library 'meeting room' can be booked for small classes and meetings.
The RHS has tables for quiet study by year 13 and unaccompanied students. If you come to the library without your class you must have a note signed by your teacher.
The cosy fiction area can be used by classes and individual students throughout the day.
Students are welcome to use the library during interval and lunchtime. Chess, Chequers and Connect Four are available to borrow.
Library Rules
- Low level of noise.
- Consideration for other users of the library at all times.
- No eating or drinking.
- No bags or jackets in the library. Shelves are provided inside the enterance for bags.
- Classes must line up outside and wait for their teacher to arrive before entering the library.
- Computers are for study-related use only.

- An extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction books.
- A collection of Graphic Novels.
- Magazines and Daily Newspapers available for reading in the library.
- 10 desk-top computers and 15 Netbooks with internet access.
- Access to subscribed Databases.
- A range of educational videos and DVDs.
- DVD/Video player for individual or small group use.
- Posters to support research.
- A collection of 'Quick Reads'.
- Reference Books: Dictionaries, Encyclopaedias, Year Books, Atlases.
- Information Files: Clippings from magazines and newspapers on 'hot topics'.
- Teacher Reference Books.
Finding Resources
The online catalogue can tell you what is available in the library, where to find it and whether it is on loan or not.
The Dewey Decimal system is used to classify non-fiction material.
Fiction is arranged alphabetically using the first three letters of the author's surname.
Information files are arranged alphabetically by subject.
Training can be given in the use of EPIC and other databases.
Borrowing Resources
- Books are issued for two weeks.
- Students can borrow up to four books at a time.
- Overdue notices are circulated via tutor groups.
- Teaching staff can place material on desk reserve to ensure equal access for all students.
- If a book is on loan it can be reserved.
- Staff may borrow magazines and journals overnight - issued at the desk.
- Staff may borrow DVD's and videos to use with students.
- The borrower is responsible for any material borrowed in their name and will be expected to pay the replacement cost of lost or damaged books.
