Junior Activity Week 

Units for Year 10 -  ½ year course

Elements of Dance

Students with research and learn the element and basic devices of Dance, focusing on BASTE (body-action-space-time-energy).  Then they will work in pairs to create a piece utilising the studied elements.

Choreographed group dance with concept

This dance will based on a world issue. It will be choreographed partly by teacher then completed by students.  A written portfolio will be worked on alongside so to fully understand the link between the dance movement and the concept

Story time

Small group piece that has to tell a story.  A section of the dance will be choreographed by the teacher and has to included in the dance...somewhere.  Specific devices have to be used to develop a motif throughout.

Discovering dance genres

In this unit we will research and discover different dance genre.  Students will then choose one in which to carry out a more in depth study.  This will conclude with a written assessment based on the previous years external exam.  

Alongside these 4 units we will be learning set dances in which to practice and enhance technique and performance.

Those students wishing to take dance for a full year will then progress into preparing further for level 1 NCEA
