Extension unit: tonal painting

If you have finished all the units, then well done! This is where you can extend yourself.
The unit we have for you here allows you to practice painting tonally in black and white.

1. Find a black and white large size picture on the internet (see the video about choosing a large picture).
It could be a head and shoulders shot of a person, Like a famous person you admire, or a family member or friend. Or it could be an animals head or skull, or flower.

2. Insert it on an A4 piece of paper in microsoft word. Change the layout to 'background' and stretch it pulling a corner and holding shift to take up the whole page.

3. print it out

4. Trace it on to brown sugar paper. It is stiffer so it will not get warped by the paint.

5. Tonally paint your image using black and white paint mixed to create greys.
