                       HEALTHY CHOICES - HEALTHY LIVING 

Childhood is a time of rapid growth and development, and a time when many habits and behaviours are set.  A healthy lifestyle, including healthy eating, in childhood will help to ensure a healthy future. 
New Zealand is experiencing a rapid increase in the proportion of obese adults and children. 10% of children are obese and a further 21% overweight. Obesity is a risk factor for many chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and stroke.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES - by the end of this term students will have developed an understanding of

    - Health risks associated with unhealthy eating
    - Food Pyramid 
    - The importance of eating breakfast and making good choices 
    - How to read food Labels
