Key subject aims

Information Literacy should encourage students to be inspired, moved and challenged by following a broad, coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study and gain an insight into related sectors. The course should prepare students to make informed decisions about further learning opportunities and career choices.

 Information Literacy enables students to:

Ø  use an enquiring, critical approach to distinguish facts and opinions, to build arguments and make informed judgements

Ø  develop and apply their knowledge, understanding and skills to contemporary issues in a range of local, national and global contexts

Ø  appreciate the range of perspectives of different stakeholders in relation to business and economic activities

Ø  consider the extent to which business and economic activity can be ethical and sustainable

What will I learn?

While studying the first two units of this course you are likely to learn a lot of new things. You will be introduced to the world of small businesses and will look at what makes someone a successful business person. You will find out how to develop an idea and spot an opportunity, and turn that into a successful business. You will understand how to make a business effective and manage money well. You will also see how the world around us affects small businesses and all the people involved.

In unit 3 you will learn more about how small businesses are developed and discover how businesses promote themselves and keep their customers happy. You will learn how businesses manage both their finances and the people who work for them.
