This Achievement Standard covers how genes which are made up of DNA produce their products which are polypeptides or proteins. The process by which this occurs is Protein Synthesis.
In Life Processes you covered the structure of DNA in order to understand how DNA makes a copy of itself in DNA replication.
In Genetic Variation and change you again learnt about DNA and how changes not fixed can lead to mutations and the creation of new alleles which evolution acts on.
This achievement standard builds on this previous knowledge and expands into Protein Synthesis. I recommend you cover the work for this standard in class and give yourself the option of sitting it in the externals. If you enjoy Genetics you will find the content very interesting.
Sitting three external Achievement Standards will not put you under time pressure in the exam.Last year the Life Processes paper was difficult so keep your options open going into the exam.
