Junior Activity Week 

YEAR 9 MUSIC


Students who study music at this level should be in at least their first year of Music Study

or doing Grade 1 Rockshool, Trinity or Associated Boards Exams.

Curriculum: Basic Theory, Basic Guitar, Basic Keyboard, Musical Knowledge Topics, Composition, and Aural recognition.

Time allotment: 13 weeks

Assessed units: Guitar, Keyboard, and Musical Knowledge.

COURSE OUTLINE

Subject and Level: STUDENT INFORMATION

Unit One: SHAKE RATTLE & ROLL

Learning Focus: to demonstrate understanding and knowledge of Rock ‘n‘ Roll style through the preparation, rehearsal, and presentation of short Rock ‘n’ Roll Pieces.
ASSESSMENT TASK: Solo Performance Task - perform the 12 bar blues pattern in one of the following keys C, G or D on a keyboard, guitar.
Due Date: Week 4-6

Unit Two: COMPOSITION - FANFARE

Learning Focus: to Create, Notate, Rehearse and perform a fanfare using the C major triad and to develop an understanding of pitch and texture.
ASSESSMENT TASK: Composition Task – Create, Notate & perform an original fanfare.
Due Date: Week 8

Unit Three: JAZZ IN THE CLASSROOM

Learning Focus: to demonstrate understanding and knowledge of Jazz style through the preparation, rehearsal, and presentation of short Jazz Pieces.
ASSESSMENT TASK: Group Performance - Students will select a group and a piece of music, learn a part and rehearse and present their performance as a member of a group.
Due Date: Week 11

Unit Four: MUSIC IN CONTEXT
Learning Focus:
to Research accurate information on a musician or group of musicians
ASSESSMENT TASK: Wall Chart - Create a wall chart on your favourite group or musician. (Homework task allow 2 weeks for completion).
Due Date Week 13.
